I’ve been coming to Avant Garde every 4 weeks for 6.5 years. I didn’t have much experience with getting my hair coloured at a salon as I had always boxed dyed it myself, therefore I didn’t have any expectations and initially didn’t think to question a few things I was starting to become unhappy with. My appointments started to feel rushed, hair dye was rarely washed out properly, if I itched the back of my head I would have dye all under my fingernails, I would often have clumps of hair dye in my ears and sometimes my clothes would be stained around the neck area. I got passed to a junior member of the team to have my hair washed on one occasion and I was impressed with how thorough she was, I then had her do my roots when my normal hairdresser was on leave, I questioned what the cream was that she was applying round my face as I hadn’t had that before, she explained it was barrier cream to stop the hair line from getting stained, I said I’d not had this before and she looked surprised (many people used to comment on my ears and face after I had just had my hair done). My hairdresser was asked why she didn’t use it and her answer was that experienced members of staff don’t need to use it, really! How did she not notice the state of my face. I started to find going to the hairdressers not enjoyable, my hairdresser was overly confident, always making it clear to customers and other staff that she was senior, the most senior one in the salon that day. The conversations were awkward as it would pretty much be a one way conversation where she spoke about nothing but herself. I made the anxious decision to book further appointments with the junior member of staff as she offered a far better service, she was a joy to see and it was lovely to have a 2 way conversation where she would always ask how I was. I was hoping my previous hairdresser would have handled the situation professionally, sadly this wasn’t the case, she was very standoffish and cold and it was becoming really awkward. I decided to try and plan my appointments around the days I knew she would be at another salon, this didn’t work for long as the salons closed and merged into one. I emailed the manager with my concerns and asked if my appointments could be at the other end of the salon to this person as I wanted to continue going, I didn’t even receive a response. I kept going to my appointments but yesterday was my last one. Kate made me feel very uncomfortable, I thought I was being overly sensi

Had an eyebrow wax a tint booked. I had booked it a week and a half in advance. I got to my appointment and couldn’t have an eyebrow tint done as I hadn’t had a patch test. When booking there was no option for me to Say I haven’t had one done and no one was in contact to let me know I needed it doing. Very disappointed as I wanted them done for my holiday.

Chloe cut my hair. It’s my first hair cut since losing most of my hair and shaving it off! She was so understanding, knowledgeable and made me feel at ease. Usually I’m too polite to say if I don’t like a cut but I can say this is the first time I’ve left a salon completely happy and confident with my look. It means the world.

Chloe did an amazing job, left loving my hair and feeling relaxed from the whole experience.

I am so very grateful to her for her attention, care and expertise. She thoroughly deserves the Masters in colour that she has recently achieved and I\'d thoroughly recommend her. Excellent service as always. I had been transferred over to Luke as my usual hairdresser is on maternity and he had read over my notes, made me feel welcome, asked me what I wanted and was friendly and the result was fantastic! Excellent service - would highly recommend Avant Garde - I have been with them for 10 years.

This is only the second time I have had Sammy do my hair but have to say she is so talented. Each time I have been impressed with her skills. She is seriously unaware of how good she is!
